Ongoing Initiatives

HARMONY

HARMONY is on a mission to recycle rare earth elements from end-of-life NdFeB permanent magnets more efficiently.

It aims at strengthening the independency and the competitiveness of the European industry, enabling a resilient value chain of raw materials by developing and validating at pilot scale an innovative, green and safe closed-loop recycling process of rare earths elements.

The goal is to create a comprehensive recycling process for NdFeB magnets, covering everything from magnet collection and dismantling to metal recovery and magnet production.

PERMANET

The European project PERMANET, funded by the Horizon Europe programme, aims to create an innovative network of different actors at European level with the goal of ensuring a resilient supply of rare earth permanent magnets (REE PM) in Europe.

Started in October 2024, PERMANET consists of 32 partners and aims to test and grow 13 technological innovations that address the entire value chain of rare earth permanent magnets, key products for the EU’s green and digital transition.

Through the implementation of 3 thematic hubs that cover the topics of sustainable REE mining, circular REE innovation and innovative magnet production, technologies and skills will be developed that will enable the development of the innovations proposed by the project.

PERMANET will thus build a unique network of actors, able to provide equipment, research and development services and expertise to develop products and processes related to the world of rare earth permanent magnets. During its 40 months of life, the project will also organise workshops and events with stakeholders in the field of REE PM, with the aim of increasing the number of network members and actors interested in the development of the technologies studied.

GREENE

Single-grain re-engineered Nd-Fe-B Permanent Magnets

The EU funded project GREENE aims to revolutionize Nd-Fe-B magnets by re-engineering them at the single-grain level to reduce RE content, using both virgin and recycled feedstocks, and minimizing environmental impact and supply chain dependencies. GREENE’s ultimate goal is to deliver more resource-efficient magnets with enhanced properties and establish an operational manufacturing system for these innovations.
