MAGELLAN was promoted at PDAC 2026, the World’s Premier Mineral Exploration & Mining Convention, held in Toronto, Canada, from 1 to 4 March 2026. The event brought together the international mineral exploration and mining community, offering an important opportunity to present MAGELLAN’s work on rare earth elements, permanent magnets and resilient European value chains.
MAGELLAN partner GTK participated with a booth, where GTK representatives shared project-related research carried out by GTK and the University of Liège on rare earth element primary mining projects in Europe. The activity provided a platform to present MAGELLAN’s contribution to understanding Europe’s rare earth resource potential and to discuss how primary supply, recycling and circularity can jointly support a more secure and sustainable permanent magnet value chain.
During the event, GTK representatives engaged with European and international booth visitors on the recyclability of permanent magnets and the strategic importance of rare earth elements as critical raw materials for Europe. These discussions helped raise awareness of the challenges linked to rare earth supply, as well as the opportunities offered by recycling, responsible sourcing and improved value chain resilience.
Harri Kaikkonen from GTK also participated in Nordic Mining Day, organised alongside PDAC 2026 where he gave a presentation on the Nordic potential for magnet raw materials, highlighting the role of the Nordic region in supporting future supply chains for materials needed in permanent magnets and clean technologies.
Through its presence at PDAC 2026, MAGELLAN reached a broad international audience of mining, exploration, research and industry stakeholders, strengthening the project’s visibility and supporting dialogue on Europe’s critical raw material needs, rare earth supply, permanent magnet recycling and sustainable sourcing.
