Press Release – Orano and CEA Launch a Pilot Line for Recycling and Manufacturing Rare Earth Permanent Magnets

30.09.2025

On the 19th of September 2025, Orano and CEA launched a new pilot line for the recycling and manufacturing of high-performance rare earth permanent magnets at CEA’s facilities in Grenoble providing a major infrastructure for MAGELLAN’s research, validation and demonstration activities.

The state-of-the-art installation reproduces all key magnet manufacturing stages under controlled atmosphere conditions and helps bridge laboratory-scale innovation with pre-industrial demonstration through magnets containing recycled material.

With a capacity of around four tonnes per year, the pilot line marks a key milestone for MAGELLAN by enabling near-industrial process validation, quality testing and qualification, while supporting the scale-up of recycled magnets for demanding applications such as electric vehicle traction motors.
