Join us for the 7th Rare Earth Roundtable, hosted by EIT RawMaterials Strategic Impact Group Network (SIGN) under the MAGELLAN Project, focusing on: “Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Applications in the Automotive Sector: Criticality and Circular Economy Challenges.”
The shift to electric mobility has made Rare Earth Permanent Magnets (REPMs) key enablers of the automotive sector’s transformation. Recognized by the EU as strategic raw materials since 2011 and explicitly listed under the Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA) since 2025.
From powering high-performance electric motors to enabling compact and efficient vehicle systems, these magnets are essential yet come with supply chain risks due to concentrated sources of elements like neodymium, dysprosium, and terbium. At the same time, the sector faces growing pressure to reduce critical material dependency and advance circular economy practices.
This webinar will explore:
- The different classes of permanent magnets in use across the automotive sector, their performance profiles, and why certain chemistries dominate critical applications such as electric traction motors.
- The emerging role and limitations of rare‑earth‑free or reduced‑rare‑earth magnets, and where they can realistically complement or substitute REPMs.
- How design, manufacturing, and recycling can improve magnet circularity
- The industry perspective on strengthening a competitive European magnet value chain
Date: 23rd October 2025
Time: 13:00–14:30 CET
🎙 Speakers include:
- David Schuller, R&D Engineer, ZF Friedrichshafen AG
- Karol Bednarek, Consultant Raw Materials, German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA)
- Miša Milosavljević, Project leader at IFP Energies nouvelles
- Moderator: Nabeel Mancheri, Senior Advisor, EIT RawMaterials
Join us a for a conversation that blends technical insight with strategic vision – vital for advancing resilient, circular solutions across the rare earth magnet value chain.
